Group Tours: Customized Tours
Successful Customized Tours
Customized tours are a specialty that requires expertise and experience. It is one thing to set up an itinerary that is desirable from a cruise lines standpoint. It is quite another to be able to develop a travel package that meets the expectations of a group with specific goals and destinations in mind.
With customized tours, the purpose and needs of the group are the starting point for discussion. The travel company must find out what the group wants before the company can start putting together an appropriate schedule. Everything hinges, for example, on whether the group consists of philatelists or jazz aficionados.
Experience Counts
Without a depth of experience with different groups and different purposes, a travel company cannot begin to put together an enriching journey. The company must be able to cope with glitches, problems, missed trains, and flooded-out bus service. Only years of developing resources and contacts will enable a company to deal successfully with the inevitable trouble spots.
In addition, the company must have personnel who understand the requirements of academic institutions, religious clubs, and performing arts groups. Working closely with the leaders of group tours is essential because those persons not only know the goals, but will be the ones in the field dealing with participants and with the final itineraries.
